This is the opening of the mine #31 at Lynch.
It was fenced and locked, but of course that
didn't stop us. After all we had traveled a long
way to see this mine that had played a large
part in our family history.


Here we are (Tom & Warren on the left, Bea & Al on the right) squeezing through
the fence to get into the mine. Brother Al (next to Bea on the right) seems to be
scratching his hemeroids with the gate lock chain. He always was a show-off.




Inside the mine was very dark and dreary. It's hard to imagine
how Grandpa Siciliano could go into this mine day after day
for so many years. This mine is closed now, but other mines
in the area are still extracting coal, mostly by remote control.
