Hi Everyone,
Tomorrow, Sunday, Carol and I are heading to SE Europe for another travel adventure. After a great experience with “Post-Pandemic?” travel last Spring [in NW Italy], we decided to do it again this Fall in SW Europe. While the Pandemic is not really behind us yet, and the future of it is still uncertain, we’re dipping our toes, once again, in some safer international travel destinations.
Carol has researched for us a couple of “second tier cities”, places we have never been, but would be fun to visit: Porto, Portugal and Bilbao, Spain. These should prove to be interesting travel destinations. After Bilbao, we’ll move into southern France to the tiny town of Caromb for a few days, where a friend has rented a house, and end up departing for home from Paris, after exploring for a couple of days in Versailles [a suburb of Paris].
We’re aching to get back into some third world travel destinations [among our recent pre-pandemic adventures being Egypt, Uzbekistan and Myanmar], but the time just isn’t yet right. COVID-19 is still active most places and many of those destinations are not yet hospitable enough to travelers. We’ll get back to it eventually, but the time and circumstances need to be right.
In the mean time, Carol has booked some lovely Bed-and-Breakfasts at these destinations. We’ll try to find some interesting things to see and there is always the unusual food and “plumbing” to write about. One extra bonus for this trip is that the Dollar has reached an extremely unusual high against the Euro [currently at $.98 per €1.00]. There has been inflation on both sides of the Atlantic, so we’re not yet sure how the cost of things will turn out. We’ll find out soon enough.
On our previous trip, I wrote about the new WordPress web site I put together during the Pandemic. I’ll be adding some travel photos to this new Travelog there. PS: As I write this, there is a terrible calamity unfolding in Southern Florida with Hurricane Ian. The people living there, some of them our own relatives, are still learning about what the future holds. It seems odd to be writing about a fun travel trip at this time. Our thoughts will be with them as we carry on…..
