0 ~ Off On Our First Post-Pandemic Adventure – To NW Italy

Hello Everyone,

Hello Everyone,

We’re Back “On The Road Again…..”

Yes, it’s been a long 3 years and 2 major international trips canceled, at the last minute [Ukraine and Iceland].  But, with a little luck, I think we’re going to be using our passports once again, this month.  To ease back into international travel, Carol has planned for us a comfortable trip to get re-started.  This time we’re heading to a familiar country, but to 4 cities that we have not ever visited, in Northwest ITALY.

To hopefully avoid some of the pandemic travel “trip-wires”, we are only going for 2 weeks, to one country [steering clear of multiple country COVID protection requirements], flying into and out of small cities [avoiding the large airport crowds and hassles] and  staying within a small geographic area [to keep the train rides very short].  We’re flying into Florence and taking an immediate train to Lucca, a beautiful small city in Northwestern Italy near Pisa.  We have had it on our visit list forever.  From there we head Northwest to another small city, Chiavari [recommended by one of Carol’s travel associates], then to Genoa [a nice coastal city near the top of the “boot”] and finally, even farther Northwest to Turin [Torino], from where we will head back home to Seattle.  Fingers crossed that we pass the departure COVID test, for entry back  into the United States.  We would hate to have to spend 14 days in Italian quarantine before we could leave.

Hopefully we will find a few unusual and interesting things to write about along the way.  For instance, there is a specialty hot drink in Turin called “Bicerin”, made with a traditional espresso, cream and hot chocolate.  Since I like all of those things, I’m hoping the combination will come with some extra special synergy.  We’ll see.

One more thing, before I go.  Sending out “email” travelogues has always been an unreliable proposition.  Sometimes they end up in the SPAM folder, sometimes they are rejected for having too many addresses.  Sending as “BCC” sometimes helps and sometimes hurts.  So, with some of the extra time I had on my hands, during the pandemic, I learned how to create a WordPress web site, where I can house my travelogues and photos together.  It’s still a work in progress, with a few bugs to work out and features to add, but I think it’s ready to release.  It shows best on a computer.  Some mobile screens [iPhone/iPad etc.] work okay and others, not so much.  I’ve been adding my past travelogs there for historical reasons and hope to eventually include all of them.  Let me know what you think.  I’m just a WordPress novice, so suggestions for improvement will be greatly appreciated.

It’s called “On The Road Again…..”   You’ll find it at:
