0 ~ On the Road Again………. Sept, 2018 – This Time Peru

Hello Everyone,

Carol and I are heading off on another travel journey tomorrow morning (Monday, September 17th, 2018). This time we’re going South, for 2 weeks, all the way to Peru. It’ll be our first trip to South America since 1999.

The main attraction will be the historic Inca ruins at Machu Picchu. We’re traveling there in a round-about way, starting on an Amtrak train from Seattle to Vancouver, Canada.  In Vancouver, we’ll get on an airplane to Lima, Peru, via Mexico City.  A quick overnight in Lima and then on to Cusco, by small airplane, where we’ll get right into a taxi for a 4 hour drive, down 2,000 feet in elevation, to Ollantaytambo (at 9,160 ft), visiting ruins and sights along the way.  There we’ll stay for 3 nights adjusting to the altitude before heading for Machu Picchu.

The reason for the stop in Vancouver, Canada, is for Carol to do a story, for the Seattle Times, about how much cheaper it is to fly from Vancouver, than it is from Seattle.  This is our third time traveling internationally from Vancouver.  We’re saving several hundred dollars per ticket this time.  In the past we have saved more than double that amount.

After visiting Machu Picchu we’ll take a train back to Cusco for a few days and then fly to Lima for several days before we head home.

Internet gods willing…… we’ll try to connect with you all along the way.  I’ve set up a photo gallery with a “starter” picture of a map showing our route.  And, of course, Carol will be blogging along the way at her usual link below.
