0 ~ We’re On The Road Again……. This Time to JORDAN, in the Middle East

Hello Fellow REAL and ARMCHAIR Travelers,

Later today, Carol and I will finally getting back into the swing of traveling again, now, since the Pandemic has been easing up a bit.  Until now, we have traveled to some “easy” locations like Italy and Spain.  This time we are venturing a bit farther and more unusual.  We’re going to the Middle East, to check out what the country of Jordan is all about.

Jordan is a small country that houses one of the “Seven Wonders of the Modern World.”  It’s the ancient city of Petra, one of the most visited tourists sites in the world.  While it seems most other countries in the Middle East are not able to figure out how to exist without fighting with their neighbors, Jordan has managed to stay peaceful and un-compromised for many, many years.  [Maybe their neighbors could take a lesson from them?]  They do support millions of refugees from around the area, but have been able to manage it all peacefully, so far.

After a 4 day “stop-over” in London on the way, we expect to arrive in Jordan next Sunday, April 24th around midnight.  Most of the short flights from Europe to Jordan seem to arrive at late night hours.  This might be because the landing spots are cheaper then, but the hotels and transportation systems have adjusted to accommodate late arriving visitors.

We have a few things planned in Amman, before leaving on a 3 day over the road excursion to Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea.  All my life I’ve never been able to tread water for very long, before completely exhausting myself.  I usually sink right to the bottom.  I’m looking forward to seeing if the extra dense, salty waters, of the Dead Sea will float me without any effort.  We’ll see.  And then, of course, there is all the good ethnic food and culture to absorb along the way.

Carol has done a tremendous amount of research about  London and Jordan for this trip.  There should be some interesting things to write about.  We have been to London many times and have reported about it in the past.  I’ll likely just write about Jordan this time, unless something new and unusual happens in London.

People have asked us “why Jordan”?  Well, stay tuned and I’ll see if I can answer that question over the next couple of weeks.  Here are the links to Carol’s initial blog about getting this trip together and my WordPress web site that houses my recent travelogs and photos [still a work in progress…].
